Application of Chinese physical and mental exercise in the elderly with mild cognitive impairment: a scoping review

Abstract:Objective To summarize the current research of traditional physical and mental exercise in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), so as to provide reference for non-drug exercise intervention in elderly patients with MCI. Methods The literature was searched from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP database, PubMed, Web of Science and Embase about the application of Chinese physical and mental exercise in the elderly with MCI, from the database establishment to December 2021. And summarizing the basic information、traditional physical and mental exercise methods、application effects of the included literature ,reporting the research results. Results A total of 22 intervention studies were included. The intervention methods include: combined intervention of various traditional physical and mental exercises (2), Baduanjin (9), Tai chi (9), liuzijue (1) and qigong (1). At present, most intervention program is 2 ~ 5 times a week, 40 ~ 90 minutes each time and lasting for 2 ~ 18 months. Traditional physical and mental exercise has a positive effect on the cognition , sleep, memory and reaction time of elderly patients with MCI,but can not improve activities of daily living and depression. Conclusion Chinese physical and mental exercise plays a positive role in improving cognitive and physical health of patients with MCI, which may be a safe and effective treatment.
