Methods Using convenient sampling method, an online questionnaire survey was conducted among 1 795 middle school students from 5 middle schools in Lanzhou City from July 21, 2022 to July 31, 2022. The intention to study medicine and related factors were assessed by using self-designed questionnaire. The psychological resilience level of students was assessed by the Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale. The related factors of middle school students' intention to study medicine after the local outbreak of the epidemic were analyzed by Multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results After the local outbreak of COVID-19 in Lanzhou City, 835 (46.52%) middle school students had the intention to study medicine. The top three reasons for the intention to study medicine were: being affected by medical staff during the pandemic (75.69%), having interests in medical sciences (67.31%), and the potential increase of attention to medical development after the epidemic (43.23%). Logistical regression analysis showed that female gender (OR=1.438, P<0.01), family members engaged in the medical and health industry (OR=1.574, P<0.01) and having a higher resilience score (OR=1.011, P<0.01) were related to higher intention to study medicine, while studying in senior middle school (OR=0.473, P<0.01) and receiving excess (≥50%) negative information during the outbreak (OR=0.797, P<0.05) were related to lower intention to study medicine. Conclusion After the COVID-19 outbreak in Lanzhou City, there is a high proportion of local middle school students had the intention to study medicine. Middle school students who are female, having family members engaged in the medical and health industry and having higher level of psychological resilience are more likely to have the intention to study medicine.
