Objective A systematic review of the effectiveness of pivotal response training (PRT) in improving the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) provides evidence-based medical evidence for the implementation of effective PRT for children with ASD. Methods Randomized controlled trials on the effect of PRT on children with ASD published from the database to October 2022 were collected by computer search of Web of Science, PubMed, OVID, SpringerLink, SinoMed, Zhiwang, Wanfang, and Wipu databases, and the risk of bias evaluation of RCTs in the Cochrane Collaboration Network was used. The methodological quality was evaluated using the Cochrane Collaboration's RCT risk of bias assessment criteria. Results A total of 6 RCTs were included, published from 2019 to 2022, with a cumulative study population of 287 cases, focusing on PRT in improving general social communication skills and verbal communication skills in children with ASD. Conclusion The evidence included in the study strongly suggests that PRT is effective in improving verbal communication skills and improving the core symptoms of general social communication deficits in children with ASD.
