Objective To explore the effects of mindfulness therapy on postoperative cognitive impairment and sleep quality in elderly patients with non-general anesthesia, and to provide reference for reducing the incidence of postoperative cognitive impairment and improving sleep quality in elderly patients with non-general anesthesia. Methods A total of 78 elderly patients who received non-general anesthesia surgery in Mianyang Third People's Hospital from March 2022 to March 2023 were selected by simple random sampling method. The patients were divided into study group and control group with 39 patients respectively according to random number table method. The study group received perioperative mindfulness therapy training (body relaxation, mindful breathing, mindful meditation, mindful yoga) on the basis of routine treatment and nursing, while the control group received routine treatment and nursing. The cognitive impairment and sleep quality of the two groups were evaluated by the Simple Mental State Scale (MMSE) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results On day 1, day 3 and day 5 after surgery, MMSE scores between the study group and the control group were statistically significant (t=-3.579, -1.764, -0.253, P <0.05), and the number of patients with POCD in the study group (5, 1, 0) was lower than that in the control group (10, 7, 3). The difference was statistically significant (χ2=2.631, 3.471, 5.135, P <0.05). The PSQI total score and the scores of sleep quality, sleep time, sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep disorder and daytime dysfunction in the study group were lower than those in the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Conclusion Mindfulness therapy can reduce the incidence of postoperative cognitive impairment and improve the sleep quality of elderly patients with non-general anesthesia.
