Xiangdong TANG received his Ph.D. in psychiatry from West China University of Medical Sciences in 1996. From 1998 to 2009, he served as a postdoctoral fellow, assistant professor, and associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Since 2009, he has been a professor and doctoral supervisor at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Dr. Tang has published over 90 papers in both basic and clinical sleep medicine, with more than 20 articles in renowned journals such as Sleep, Sleep Medicine Reviews, Biological Psychiatry, Thorax, and Hypertension. His published articles have been cited over 3,000 times, and several of them have been invited for paper critique. In 2016, he received the prestigious Outstanding Paper Award in the field of hypertension by the American Heart Association. He currently holds leadership positions as vice president of the Chinese Sleep Research Society, Deputy Director of the Sleep Medicine Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, deputy editor of BMC Psychiatry, and editorial board member of Sleep Breath. As a leader, he has undertaken various research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation projects, key projects for overseas and regional cooperation, and key projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology (the Program 973).
