Related factors of foreign language learning anxiety of senior high school students eight years after Wenchuan earthquake

      Objective To investigate foreign language learning anxiety and its related factors of senior high school students eight years after Wenchuan earthquake, and to provide suggestions for improving the mental health of the students.Methods A total of 668 senior high school students in Wenchuan earthquake area were enrolled by cluster sampling method, and were assessed by Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C) and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS).Results The FLCAS score of the students was (101.77±19.78), and Pearson correlation analysis indicated that FLCAS score was negatively correlated with PCL-C score (r=-0.154, P<0.01), and positively correlated with PSSS score (r=0.225, P<0.01), respectively. Multiple regression analysis revealed that FLCAS score was related to the gender (B=3.380, P=0.037), age (B=-4.510, P=0.003), post-traumatic stress disorder (B=-0.359, P<0.01) and other supports (B=0.550, P=0.038).Conclusion Eeight years after Wenchuan earthquake, senior high school students who experienced the earthquake suffer foreign language learning anxiety, and it’s influenced by demographic sociological factors, post-traumatic stress disorder and social support.
