Objective To investigate the nutritional status of the inpatients with senile dementia and its related factors, and to provide references for the integrated care for them. Methods With the cluster sampling method,a total of 339 inpatients with senile dementia were recruited from Guangyuan Mental Health Center. All subjects were assessed with Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and DENTAL health screening (D-E-N-T-A-L). According to the score of MNA, the prevalence of malnutrition and at-risk of being undernourished were calculated. Ordinal Logistic regression and multivariate Logistic regression were used to explore potential risk factors of malnutrition. Results A total of 235 cases (69.3%) of senile dementia patients with nutritional problems were detected, including 151 cases (44.5%) of malnutrition and 84 cases (24.8%) of potential malnutrition. The influencing factors of nutritional status were being married (OR=0.58, 95% CI: 0.35~0.95, P=0.03), dental health (OR=1.26, 95% CI: 1.04~1.51, P=0.02), depression (OR=1.09, 95% CI: 1.05~1.13, P<0.01) and cognitive function (OR=0.92, 95% CI: 0.90~0.95, P<0.01).Conclusion Malnutrition is common among the inpatients with senile dementia. Absence of a spouse, poor dental health, depression and impaired cognitive function were the main factors associated with malnutrition
